With the rate of disabilities spiking – due to war, an aging population, and extreme sports – this growing demographic is making headlines. In fact, people with disabilities (which include Baby Boomers, disabled veterans, and hidden disabilities) have emerged as the world’s largest and fastest growing minority group.
As journalists and other media professionals increasingly report on disability-related topics it has become evident that there is often disconnect between the general public and people with disabilities, as well as the way we report on and talk about the disabled population in the news.
